09Ship Building
Robotic automation for ship building
Ship building means very large steel structures, long seams and heavy handling. ARS settles reach and payload in simulation and builds cells in house before they ship.

01Demands
What ship building asks of a line
Very large steel panels and blocks
Hull panels and blocks are far larger than the parts a typical robot cell is sized for.
Long weld seams
Seams can run the full length of a panel, so the weld has to stay consistent from end to end.
Heavy lifting and handling
Plates, profiles and blocks need cranes and heavy fixtures to move safely.
Work organized in blocks and modules
A hull is built as blocks that are welded, fitted out and joined, so work moves in stages.

What ARS brings
Simulation
Simulations are fully dynamic, use 3D graphics and are offered for multiple robot models.
Controls engineering
ARS configures and develops stand-alone and networked PLC-based control systems, and writes the software that runs them.
In-house build up to 15,000 sq ft
ARS has the facilities to complete a project in house as a turn-key automation build, equipped with robots, control systems and CNCs.
Production support
Support teams of engineers from the beginning of the process through the very start of production.

04Questions
Common questions
Can reach on large structures be checked before hardware is built?
Yes. 3D concepts and load analysis determine machine capacity, and fully dynamic simulation covers multiple robot models before hardware is committed.
Where are cells built?
ARS has the facilities to complete a project in house, in up to 15,000 sq ft at 56692 Mound Rd, Shelby Township, Michigan.
Which services apply here?
Robot Programming, Integration Support, Controls Engineering and Production Support apply to ship building.
